Description
The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for assessment and treatment of inpatient and outpatient communication disorders (i.e., speech, language, hearing) and swallowing impairment (dysphagia) inclusive of, but not limited to, clinical and instrumental assessment techniques such as video fluoroscopic assessment, and instrumental voice assessment utilizing perceptual and objective measures (e.g., VHI, CAPE V, CVE – 2, Visi-Pitch).
Advocates for patients and families regarding issues specific to communication and dysphagia, and provides education and best practice guidance to patients, family members, partners in care and hospital staff. Contributes to local, regional, and national knowledge by participating in, and contributing to evidence informed practice. Acts as a clerical educator for high school co-op, volunteer, and health professional students.
