ABOUT THE ROLE

Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager – Community Mental Health, and Supervisor – GAPPS and Back to Home, the Registered Nurse is responsible for providing psychiatric and general nursing care in order to assist the individual patient toward an optimal level of health and independence in the community. The Back to Home program is designed to provide comprehensive support to individuals within a community setting. The Registered Nurse will be responsible for providing addictions and mental health supports and services to individuals with complex mental health and substance use needs.

WHAT YOU BRING

Education/Experience:

• Current unrestricted certificate of registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Specialized training or certification in Mental Health/Psychiatry (preferred)
• Minimum three years of experience in addictions/mental health treatment as a member of an inter-professional team is preferred

Skills/Abilities:

• Understanding of current treatment modalities of psychiatric disorders experienced by clients of the program
• Knowledge, skills and experience in assessment, treatment and rehabilitation, crisis management, advocacy, and principles of Psychosocial Rehab and trauma-informed care
• Ability to manage a caseload in a community based setting
• Superior ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences
• Knowledge of the work and programs within St. Joseph's Care Group mental health and community resources, and an understanding of relevant legislation (ie. Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, PHIPA)
• Knowledge of resources and community services, including housing services, and mental health and addictions programs
• Ability to establish effective working relationships, working collaboratively with other nurses and an interprofessional team
• Ability to work independently, interdependently, and participate as a contributing member of a team to meet program goals and objectives
• Advanced critical thinking skills including problem-solving and decision-making abilities
• Ability to prioritize and organize workload efficiently and effectively
• Demonstrated regular attendance at work

Conditions of Employment:

• This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
• May be required to work flexible hours
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License:
  • Class G
