ABOUT THE ROLE
Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, the Cook is responsible for the preparation of daily meals, nourishments, snacks, and special items to the residents, families, and staff. The Cook is responsible to perform duties in a manner that promotes workplace safety and teamwork within the department and follows safe food handling practices.

WHAT YOU BRING
Education/Experience:
- Successfully completed chef training or culinary management diploma (as per Long-Term Care Homes Act Regulation # 76)
- Preference will be given to those licensed as a Cook in the province – Red Seal Certification
- Current Safe Food Handling Certificate (must be kept up to date)

- Prior experience in large quantity cooking, preferably in a healthcare facility
- Knowledgeable about the Canada Food Guide and therapeutic diets
Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledgeable about Canada's Food Guide and therapeutic diets
- Familiarity with the Public Health Food Premises Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
- Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to read and write English
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Position involves physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving hot, heavy items (up to 15 kg) and standing for prolonged periods
- Must be able to work accurately, quickly and safely
- Demonstrated regular attendance at work
Assets:
- Catering and baking experience an asset
Conditions of Employment:
- This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
