ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Supervisor - Occupational Health, the Occupational Health Nurse functions as an active member of the Occupational Heath, Safety & Wellness team to provide comprehensive occupational health services to St. Joseph’s Care Group employees. Key responsibilities include developing, promoting, and administering health-related services including education; healthcare screening, surveillance, promotion, and protection; disability claims management; WSIB claims management collaborating in the development of return to work strategies and individualized return to work plans; counselling / referring employees regarding health and wellness issues.

WHAT YOU BRING
Education/Experience:
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in good standing
- Diploma in Occupational Health (DOH)
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN-C) from the Canadian Nurses Association, or willing to obtain certification within the first 3 years of employment
- Current certification in CPR and Standard First Aid
- Minimum two years’ experience in the occupational health field
- Understanding and working knowledge of insured disability plans as well as Workplace Safety and Insurance Board benefits and current WSIB/OH&SA legislation is required
- Knowledge and experience with relevant legislation and regulations including but not limited to Duty to Accommodate, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility Ontario Disability Act (AODA), and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Knowledge and understanding of occupational health and safety theory, infection control principles and practices, rehabilitation theory, and applicable provincial legislation and application.
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to deliver presentations to a variety of audiences
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees, community partners, private and public officials, and co-workers
- Ability to apply a case management model when assessing, developing, implementing, evaluating, and adjusting case plans
- Well-developed counselling and health assessment skills are essential
- Ability to independently plan and manage workload expectations
- Must possess superior customer service and teamwork skills
- Attention to detail, excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to use independent judgment and maintain confidentiality of records, actions, and information
- Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
- Proficient in the use of Parklane Occupational Health and Safety software
- Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Demonstrated regular attendance at work
Asset:
- Membership with the Ontario Occupational Health Nurses Association
Conditions of Employment:
- This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
- Will be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
