Position Summary
We are seeking Overhead Door Installers to join our Commercial team based in Whitehorse, Yukon. This opportunity involves working with specialized equipment and tools to install overhead doors and related hardware at commercial and residential sites. While work experience in a similar role is desirable, We will provide on-the-job training and tools required.
Main Responsibilities and Duties
- Organizing and loading material needed
- Installing new door systems and openers
- Removing and disposing of existing doors as needed
- Installing dock seals and bumpers
- Assembling door systems with all the hardware
- Installing weather stripping
- Replacing hardware on existing doors
- Operating specialized tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Assisting with installation of larger projects
- Assisting with inventory of supplies and materials
- Keeping construction site and shop tidy
- Completing job site checklists?
- Monitoring and reporting on job progress on a daily basis
- Notifying the supervisor when supplies are low to ensure adequate amounts are ordered and available in the shop.
- Maintaining inventory control in work vehicles
- Communicating with the Project Coordinator on service calls
- Assisting in any and all duties, problems, issues that may arise on a day-to-day basis in installation of products.
- Maintaining professional behavior in all dealings with employees, colleagues and other departments.
- Working with and collaborating with other Supervisors and co-workers.
Education and Experience
- No formal certification required
- Certifications in construction, wood working or as a General Labourer are considered an asset.
- Experience handling tools and equipment in a safe manner, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Mechanical aptitude would be an asset.
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Good math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Good hand-eye coordination and good motor skills
- Comparable industry experiences an asset but not required;
- Basic carpentry skills with ability to use a variety of tools and equipment;
- Comfortable working outdoors in any weather conditions;
- Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing;
- Comfortable working safely at heights;
- Able to analyze information and troubleshoot problems;
- Positive attitude and a strong work ethic are a must.
Conditions of Employment
- A valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license with a driver’s abstract (minimum 3 years)
- Lift ticket or fall arrest training considered an asset
- Valid First Aid Certificate or willing to obtain
- WHMIS certificate or willing to obtain
- Willing to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Willing to learn and take additional training as required
- Willing and able to lift material weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work overtime, evenings and/or shift work, if required
